(Music Video) Reflection - Week 3

Within my week 3 reflection, i done my Focus group, one to one with my teacher, and audience research, with my focus group i spoke about my idea and how i am going to record it, i got my audience to give me feedback and tell me my pros and cons, within my focus group one issue that i found out was the weather, however i found out that i have indoor locations so there is a solution, i explained what they are going to wear and i explained that my male actor had to wear something specific but my female actor didn't. So i took my feedback from my focus group to use on my music video, however after my focus group i had to change my song due to issues within my performers, this meant that my focus group and synopsis, wouldn't really help me however it still does have the same concept. With my one to one with my teacher i was told to upload a character profile and a recce for my pre-production work, this would help me with my final project, as it would help me get the highest grade,...

Music Video Synopsis.

Image
For my final project I will be making a music video to the song Baddest by Amelia Monet ft EO. The music video will follow themes of 'fellowship and forest'.  The original music video directed by a videographer called 'suave' and the way he directed this music video it follows the themes, the music video was produced by  dabeatfreakz & rzbeats. Moreover the video focuses on the relationship between both singers Amelia and EO. I aim to contrast this by focusing on the emotional side of the music video idea and show how the relationship is between both singers.  The first verse of my music video i will have my camera following the protagonist while she is lip syncing, Some of the shots I plan to include are; The protagonist looking into the camera and dancing while lip syncing the song, Low and high shots of the protagonist, B-rolls of the locations, and a simple mid-shot of movement. It will be shot at many different locations such as Canary Wharf and sou...

Production Research- Equipment

Image
For my production research i will need to list all the equipment is would need to create my final project, The main e quipments i will need at the start of this project is a dslr c amera, t ripod and a shoulder rig. Why i use a Dslr camera? Dslr cameras have many technical functions that a normal bridge camera wouldn't have, from my research online i found out that w hen the Canon 5D Mk II arrived in November 2008, with a function to shooting HD (high definition) video, it turned the world of independent filmmaking completely on its head. With its amazing capabilities at low light, ability to shoot with a really shallow depth of field and of course relatively cheap price tag (more on this later) the camera suddenly made it extremely easy and affordable for people to shoot stunning cinematic videos. I chose to use a dslr rather than a bridge camera because it has features that are better and really effective these are things like the  Optical sensor, it is generally better,...

Audience Research

My final project, would have a niche target audience, this is because w ith niche audiences i can be sure the right people are seeing my product/project. My target audience would be working class people aged 13-26 that are into hip-hop and r&b music, male and female, it would for mainly people that are still in education as my age range is 13-26, in the demographic ladder my target audience would be 'D'. With me selecting a niche target audience, this means that i would have less competition  however if i was to have a mainstream target audience it would have a lot of competition, the reason for this is because it would get repetitive and a lot of people would be doing the same thing. However the reason i specifically selected 13-36 year olds is because i believe this is the correct ages which listen to hip hop music, the minimum for me is 13 year olds because this song does not include any explicit content and so it would be good to have younger audience too....

(Music Video) Reflection - Week 2 - Case Studies

This week i focused on my contextual research and case studies, the two case studies i had were two music videos, these music videos were called 'Baddest and 'Genie' in my case studies i wrote about the details of each music video and why things were used, for example lighting and camera shots/movements. On my case study on 'Baddest' i wrote that the music video begins slowly and the audience is shown multiple b-roll shots of what locations it has been shot at. From this case study i wanted to take the idea of using b-roll shots and using it in my final music video, this is because the song 'Baddest' links and has the same concept to my final music video. Moreover i also want to take the idea of the composition of the music video, i like how the videographer shot some shot and i like how the director directed the music video due to the face it affects the audience. Moving onto my contextual research, my contextual research consists of the history of musi...

(2) Case Studies - Youngboy Never Broke Again - Genie (Music video)

Image
The music video begins slowly and we are shown shots of the artist, the editor has started it slowly by reducing the speed of the clips for about the first 10-15 seconds of the video, this can be seen from 0:10 - 0:20 seconds in the music video. Upon the surfaces in the background I could see that it is set at night and its set outside someone's house, this could be suggesting that this music video has a story behind it as its set at an old looking house in other words its set in the "hood". Towards the middle of the music video I can that the location has not changed and it is still set at the same location, this is connotes that the lyrics has a link towards the music video, the director of the music video especially didn't want to change the location because he/she wanted to show the audience the importance of the lyrics and location chosen, another reason is because ...

(1) Case Studies - Amelia Monet ft EO - Baddest (Music video)

Image
The music video begins slowly and we are shown multiple b-roll shots of what locations it has been shot at. The mise-en-scene suggests this because of the layout and composition. Upon the surfaces in the background I could seen greenery suggesting it could be set inside some sort of greenhouse or indoor garden. Towards the middle of the music video I also see modern buildings and skyscrapers which connotes it is set in a posh and higher class area. The music video has intrigued the audience mid way through, the viewers can clearly see at this point that the music video about some sort of relationship because there's a Female and Male singer in the scene and the lyrics link together with the actions taken in the music video this can been seen on the image shown above. These two singers are fairly happy and the audience will want to know the story behind it, for example it would want to leave the audience to go ...

Contextual Research from understanding popular music.

Image
I have got some contextual research from a book called 'Understanding popular music' i found some useful information about music, and music videos in general also many other sub genres.   Some sub genres are Music on the silver  screen, The small screen, and music videos.    Popular music on the silver screen, this refers to music in the 1920s to 1930s, during that period music had a really important relationship with films, this is because at that era films were being created using no audio in other words this is called a silent film. From my primary research i found out that during the films were being shown live to the audience they would have a live musical accompaniment meaning they would have people playing instruments creating music to fit the film, however the main instrument they used is a piano. This was used mainly in the 1930s and counted to be important into the 1960s. Moreover the main genres of popular music would be, vein,...

(Music Video) Reflection Week 1 - Proposal.

Image
Within week one I had 3 ideas for my final project, these were for me to create a music video, short film or to create a documentary. Also in week one, i done my proposal,  My proposal was based on what I could think of , off the top of head it was kind of a brief idea revolved around love, it was based off the theme I had chosen which was fellowship and forest, when I started to write the proposal I had a idea how I was going to develop the proposal but when I was writing it, I was struggling to come up with a strong idea , but the proposal was based off what I believe deserves a lot more awareness than its getting , I knew exactly what I want my music video to be about, but in terms of writing my proposal I found it really easy and the format was structured really well.  My Proposal can be seen on the image shown.  I based my proposal off what I was good at for example I was good at filming, i am good at creating music videos as i done it last year,...

Historical: Contextual Research

Image
First Music videos:  From my research I found out that  the  first music video is called  ' The Little Lost Child'  in 1894. This is considered more like the first illustrated song. Using a magic lantern, a series of still images were projected on a screen simultaneous to live performances. And then there was two other music videos which were animated films/videos these were produced in 1929-1930, and 1940. These music videos are called  Silly Symphony  and  Fantasia. And finally i believe that the first music video that was published on youtube is  Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock, What's  interesting  about these music videos is that the fact that there was camera back then that could record footage like this. From the Elvis Presley music video i also found that there was no editing involved, i could see that it was all filmed at once meaning that there was no editing or anything done during filming. I got my information from the w...

What i have done well? What i need to improve?

Image
What i have done well?  I believe i have addressed my idea well enough for my audience to understand a brief idea of my concept, i have done this by telling them what i will be doing for my final idea, which is a music video, i have expressed my ideas for example what song i will be doing, and what location i will set this at ext. What I need to improve on? I believe that I didn't express my idea with confidence, and I also believe I wasn't in a presentable manner. I need to improve with my confidence and speaking within class work. To improve my slide show I could have added more ideas, for example more locations and different types of clothing my actors would wear ext.
