Historical: Contextual Research

First Music videos:
From my research I found out that the first music video is called 'The Little Lost Child' in 1894. This is considered more like the first illustrated song. Using a magic lantern, a series of still images were projected on a screen simultaneous to live performances. And then there was two other music videos which were animated films/videos these were produced in 1929-1930, and 1940. These music videos are called Silly Symphony and Fantasia. And finally i believe that the first music video that was published on youtube is Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock, What's interesting about these music videos is that the fact that there was camera back then that could record footage like this. From the Elvis Presley music video i also found that there was no editing involved, i could see that it was all filmed at once meaning that there was no editing or anything done during filming. I got my information from the web,

From my research on the web, i found out that the first music video to be aired on MTV was 'Killed the Radio Star' by The Buggles, MTV launched on August 1, 1981 and that the music video was the millionth video to air on February 27, 2000. The Buggles would be considered as one of the pioneers of music videos because of their successful time in music. However another singer that really had an impact in music videos was Michael Jackson, this is because In 1994 there was girl band which was called TLC and they released Waterfalls, the most expensive video of the time with a price tag of $1 million. But it was quickly surpassed by Michael Jackson's $7 million music video Scream, featuring sister Janet Jackson. From my research they would go and spend $600,000 per day of the video, this included everything for example the costumes and make up for Janet. Moreover the noticeable pioneers for me in music videos in my generation would be from American artists that rap and sing, for example Soulja Boy, Chief Keef, 50 cent, Beyoncé, Ludacris, Jay Z, Kanye West and many more, however other people may disagree with me and say that the pioneers of music videos were people like Elvis Presley and Whitney Houston, I believe that being a pioneer for music videos is from creating trends, for example Soulja boy, first hit the music scene when he was around 17 he produced a song called 'Crank That' this straight away blew due to its lyrics and famous dance, called the Superman dance, in the music video you can see the famous dance at 2:25 minutes. I say people like this are pioneers because they encourage more rappers/singer to create content like this and learn from the person that first done it. Another reason Soulja Boy is a pioneer in music videos for me, is because of its catchy lyrics from songs 'Crank that' and Kiss me thru the Phone' finally all the music videos that were produced before Soulja boy created his song hadn't had as much views on YouTube after Soulja boy blew in the American music scene things started to develop, for example more record labels and more artist wanting Music videos created for their songs.

I also believe that there are pioneers in the US and the UK, as in the UK music videos are commonly known from Drill music, this has been become a trending thing for many years and still going on, drill music started as rival gangs making music however drill music videos haven't blown as much as American pioneers, however for me the pioneers are a group called '67' they are known for their amazing work within the rap genre and people have seen how they have blown and how its helped them to get to where they are now. They released many music videos on a YouTube Channel called GRM Daily, (One of the channel that uploads UK Drill, Rap and Hip-hop music) however for me they became the pioneer of it because of one song they created with a rapper called Giggs, as releasing this other groups and rappers were releasing music videos too however, this caught a lot of attention in the Music Video category. as it stands there is 15 million views on the video, which is a lot for Drill music. After this other artist would take this idea and use it for their own product, they would take things like the special edits that has been done and camera work.
Moreover, music video in Hip-hop has been a massive hit in the UK for many years and it would never die out due to music being really popular, there are some really big singers that have put out music videos on YouTube and its been really successful, for example, Justin bieber, DJ Khaled, Kanye West ext.

For me there was a specific time when music videos developed and changed, this was for me towards the 21st century, and when the first 1080p dslr was introduced, this was in August the 27th the Nikon D90 this was the first Dslr to have 1080p, this meant that video quality would improve drastically, from 720p to 1080p is a huge boost for camera men and videographers, this allowed music videos to be really effective and seen very smooth, another reason it helped music videos getting better is because editing footage from cameras like that was much easier and editors could use amazing effects on videos, this influenced many videographers to create music videos and take advantage of new camera such as 4k camera and professional editing softwares.
